Waiver of notice period resignation letter

Comments from Carl: Sometimes, you might need to leave your job immediately and not give any notice period. In similar cases, you might be in a job that allows you to leave right away but you just need to get it confirmed in writing. For example, jobs where you literally get walked out of the building the moment you resign. Mind you in that case, you might not have time to actually type up the following letter...but hopefully you get the point.

You might have agreed to start a new job right away and need to get your current employer to allow you to leave immediately while not burning any bridges on the way out. This isn't ideal to do this, but sometimes it does happen. In this case, I'd verbally ask to waive the notice period first and then follow up with a letter similar to the one below. You can tailor it for your own purposes.

Dear Jane

This letter is to inform you that I am resigning my position as Your Job Title Here.

As per our discussion today, I recognize that I'm required to give 3 weeks notice but request that I be allowed to leave the company immediately that I may start with my new employer. I will work diligently to wrap up my duties quickly and to ensure a smooth handover before I leave.

I thank you for your consideration and wish you and everyone at ABC Corporation the best in the future.
