Certainly the current economic climate can make some people face underemployment if they've recently been laid off and find themselves accepting a new job that pays less and is a position they would have previously regarded as of no interest to them.

Something to think about regarding underemployment is the industry/profession you are in, and your level of education. Do people in your industry/profession - basically the people you might be competing with for jobs - have a level of education that you don't have? How do you stack up with others in your field with regards to the level of education you've attained?
