Resigning During The Probation Period

If an employee needs to resign from his position does he require to give a prior notice?

Response from Carl: It really depends on your personal situation, your company and what sort of work agreement you have with the company. It's possible that you could leave the company right away - especially if you need to ie. you're starting a new job elsewhere - so perhaps the best thing to do would be to speak directly with your manager and tell them the situation.

In this instance one of two things will happen:

1. You'll be allowed to leave early and finish up work without giving the full (or any) notice, depending on what you and your manager agree to.

2. Your manager will want you to stay for some sort of notice period that may or may not suit you. If it doesn't suit you, you'll obviously have a decision to make as to what to do.

The last thing you really want to do is burn any bridges so ideally you'll come to some sort of agreement with your boss that leaves both of you happy. You never know, you might work with these same people in the future so it's best to keep them friendly!
