To obtain a Postdoctoral position in bioinformatics to expand my knowledge and scientific abilities.

Response from Carl: Thanks for your submission. What sort of background do you already have? I presume a Masters so I'd mention it up front just so the reader knows right away.

For a postdoctoral position, I'm not sure if the same rules apply as for other jobs but I suspect focusing on what you offer the institution you're applying to and not mentioning what you're looking for ("to expand my knowledge...") is probably the way to go.
