No notice period resignation letter

Comments from Carl: What if you have no written notice period? What sort of resignation letter would you write and what sort of notice period do you give in this case?

The best thing to do would be to verbally resign as usual and speak with your manager about your situation. If you're required to start a new job the following week, I'd try to work something out that works for both of you.

If you aren't starting a new position or have nowhere urgent to go and they ask for you to stay for a short period of time, it's probably best that you do so, just to leave on good terms and not leave your manager high and dry.

As with any resignation you don't want to burn any bridges so even if you have no formal or written notice period, working to satisfy your manager will mean you can leave the company on a good note and be remember fondly which can come in handy next time you need a reference.

Dear Jane

This letter confirms my resignation from my position as Your Job Title effective immediately. As I have no formal written notice period and as per our discussion today, I will remain with the company until March 5 and will complete work as you require to ensure a smooth handover before leaving.

Thank you again for the opportunity to work with ABC Corporation. I wish you and the company well in the future.

Sincerely
