Nepotism

by Freda

Nepotism is something I've witnessed personally in my work life. Specifically, I've worked for family-owned businesses where it's fairly obvious that the family members who work there are treated better and get more opportunities that non-family members.

What can you do in situations like this?

Freda

Response from Carl Good question, Freda. In many if not most cases, there might be little you can do if the family owns the company since they can run it as they see fit. Certainly, nepotism can be demotivating if you see that no matter what you do you always end up with less than people who are only treated better because they happen to be related to the owner.

I guess you'd have to ask yourself what your long term prospects are with this company and whether or not you really want to work for someone like that.
