The Master of Computer Science Degree

A Master of Computer Science degree is a logical possible next step in terms of continuing your education after completing a Bachelor's degree in computer science or after completing your Bachelor's degree and then working for several or more years.

I began my recruitment career working as an IT Recruiter and while I can't say that I saw someone get a job in information technology simply because they held a university degree, I think of some occasions where having a Computer Science degree did help.

This is especially true with companies who value education especially when it comes to their IT staff.

I can think of several companies I helped place staff with - IT companies - who wouldn't hire staff who didn't hold a college or university degree in Computer Science for any positions in their development group.

IT professionals are often saddled with stereotypes in terms of being referred to as "techies." Specifically this can mean that they are seen as being very hands-on, technical people.

Sometimes this can mean that although they might be good at what they do in a technical sense, they are sometimes perceived as being weak in the communications or interpersonal department.

While obtaining a Master of Computer Science degree won't necessarily guarantee a certain level of success, it can help distinguish you from people who don't hold the designation who are applying for the same jobs you are especially if it's a management, team leader or even more senior position.

Educational achievements can often help to indicate that you are a person who can learn and who can be taught. This can have a positive effect when applying for certain jobs, especially positions involving the management of staff.

Holding this sort of post graduate degree might help you show a potential hiring manager that you are an IT professional capable of managing, since you are someone who is knowledgeable and skilled enough to teach and lead a group of people.
