Manager drinks with employees and gossips like house wives in a laundromat.

My manager was promoted from within. As a person, he is a nice guy. As a manager he is unprofessional and irresponsible as he seems to drink with the employees he supervises and gossips with them as well.

I have drank with him once, and I was incredibly uncomfortable and didn't enjoy the situation at all. Prior to returning to school, I had been a manager for over 10 years in a similar industry.

As a result, he has skewed perceptions of employees he does not favor or drink with. He gives poor employees the benefit of the doubt and lets them walk over him, and he does not treat situations fairly.

He told me that I don't like anyone, and cited my inquiry about another employee's ability to come to work regularly based on her previous poor attendance for health and family reasons. I had asked about it mainly because the team I work on has been working with guest employees each day of work for months, as well as a mild psycho with a knife, and people who were hired and never showed up.

I tried broaching the topic with the owner, and he seemed receptive to what I was saying. He did nothing to correct the issue, however.

I have taken no further action than to complain about it on the net. I am working on finding another job to replace this one.

Response from Carl: Thanks Marian. It sounds like you're already taking action to correct the situation, namely finding a new job. Sometimes the job you have doesn't seem worth keeping given the situation you're facing and it sounds like you've come to this conclusion on your own.
