management/owners/HR- all close friends

by anonymous

I work for a privately owned veterinary hospital. All of the managers/owners/HR are all friends and extremely unprofessional. If you're liked by the management team you can come in late, call out more than the allowed sick time, get approved for vacation time without following protocol etc. K have been suspended for using the internet even when I asked permission and even though others do. It all the time. I have been told I cannot come in late for child care issues even though students can come whenever they want due to studying, exams or a late class. I have been put on probation for calling out past my sick allowance when others have abused the policy far worse. Actually one fellow coworker frequently comes in late due child care issues and they made a new position for her as a trainer and changed her hours to suit her schedule. My problem is I have no one to go to because the entire management team are responsible for the favoritism. Even the one HR person plays favorites as well.

Yes I should quit but due to being a recently single mom, this the only hospital I can work at because of the late hours. Other 24 hour hospitals are too long of a distance to drive.

I am extremely experienced and a hard worker so its not that.

Even if the treatment was equal that I could understand but its not.

So my question is do I put up and shut up or is there anything legally I can do and still keep my job?

Response from Carl: Sorry about your predicament. It sounds like approaching HR isn't an option based on what you mention and I presume you don't have a union otherwise I'm sure you would have mentioned it. Short of that and assuming you have the means to do so, consulting a labor lawyer might be your next step if you feel you have a case and if you feel the job is worth fighting for.
