Job searching in December and January

I am a university student and I was doing a paper on employment stats.

I was wondering if December and January are months that people take time from job hunting or the opposite.


Response from Carl: Thanks Emanuel. That's a great question. In my experience, people can search for jobs at pretty much anytime of the year and hiring companies will look for staff whenever they need them regardless of the time of year. Of course, my experience is largely in North America so things can be different around the world depending on the local customs, holidays, etc.

One thing that people in North America often believe is that hiring companies stop hiring during December due to the Christmas holidays and possibly during the summer as well. Hiring can certainly slow down during some parts of the year. Having said that, I know of people who have received job offers during the summer months and even on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, too. Hiring companies generally hire when they need to hire people and if it happens to be around a holiday, so be it.
