Weighing Multiple Job OffersImagine having multiple job offers to choose from? How would you choose which job suits you best? Which job would be the best one to choose and how you would you decide? At the end of the day, you'll need to decide which offer would be best based on your criteria and what makes the most sense to you but it goes to prove that sometimes when you're searching for a new job, timing is everything.
You might go weeks or months with no luck searching and then suddenly a few job interviews come your way and pretty soon you're trying to choose between more than one job offer. In many cases you might see the possibility of multiple job offers coming before you actually receive them so you might be prepared for this eventuality. I can think of many instances when a job searcher I was helping gets a job offer from one company while interviewing with another company. One question that I've been asked a number of times recently is "After I accept a job offer with one company, can I accept a better offer with another company?" Actually, in some cases the question is "How do I go about telling the company I just accepted a job offer with that I've now decided to accept another offer from someone else instead?" In other words, they've already decided to accept the second offer and they want me to tell them how they should break the news to the other company whose offer they accepted first and now want to back out of! As mentioned above, you'll have to make the decision yourself as to whether or not you feel comfortable telling a company whose offer you've accepted that you've decided to change your mind and accept another job offer from someone else. It's certainly not good practice to do this sort of thing since you pretty much guarantee you've burned your bridges with the company you're about to spurn. For this company, it probably means they'll have to start their search over again to find someone else to take the job you accepted and are now turning down. If you work in a small industry or one where word travels fast, it could cause you grief later on during your next job search if news gets out. People do talk about this stuff! There is a difference between weighing multiple job offers and accepting multiple job offers! If you accept a job offer you should be prepared to start the job.
