The Job Interview: Types Of Job Interviews

The type of job interview you are going to attend is something that you will (ideally) be aware of before you go to the interview.

The more information you have at your fingertips the better you will be able to prepare for it. Sometimes you are not given as much information as you'd like but the information you do get should be used accordingly.

There are many types of interviews you might face so here are the common ones that job searchers often experience and that you might come across during your career.

Human Resources Interview
The Human Resources Interview is not always an easy, screening interview. Here's why.

First Interview
The First Interview can take many forms but here are some thoughts regarding what you might expect to see.

Second Interview (And Subsequent Interviews)
The Second Interview (and subsequent interviews) are usually a good indication that the company wants to learn more about you and is narrowing down the list of people being considered for the job.

Behavioral Interview
The Behavioral Interview can be a difficult interview to prepare for and a gruelling interview to attend. How can you prepare for it?

Lunch Interview
The Lunch Interview is when you attend an interview in a lunch setting and find yourself eating and answering questions at the same time!

Informational Interview
The Informational Interview is when you request an interview in an attempt to expand your network and meet people who can positively influence your job search.

Long Distance Interview
If you're considering jobs outside your home area, you might find yourself attending an interview in another city, state or even country.

Problem Solving Interview
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time! Ever been asked a problem solving question during an interview?

Phone Interview
The phone interview is often used as a screening interview or when geography prevents you from meeting the hiring manager in their office.

Group Interview
A Group Interview is when you are interviewed at the same time along with other people for the same job. The dynamics can be quite interesting.

Panel Interview
A Panel Interview is when a group of people interview you so rather than fielding questions from one person, you might be speaking with 2 or more people.

Stress Interview
The Stress Interview can be a technique used by hiring managers to test how you respond to stressful situations and can take several forms.

Internal Job Interview
The Internal Job Interview refers to when you are interviewing for a job within the company you already work with.
