He was discharged!! She was not discharged!!!

by John
(Atlanta, GA)

There is no record to show that I have been suspended for anything at any time while working for security Company in Atlanta Ga. If there is a record it is a fraudulent record.

My name is John I have been employed with this company for five months. I feel this was favoritism. Here are the details.

I was pushing a passenger in a wheelchair from C concourse to landside, when the manager stopped me on C concourse while I was waiting for the elevator with my passenger. While waiting I was asked to push an empty wheelchair to landside, when it was clear I was pushing a passenger. It was understood that we had a choice as it related to pushing two wheelchairs. I had a brief dialogue concerning this matter. My response was that I did not feel comfortable pushing a passenger and an empty wheelchair at the same time. Now here comes a female employee pushing a single empty wheelchair, and he ask her to push the two chairs and she refused him. I moved on with the passenger I was assisting to landside.

Approximately two hours later I was at landside along with the supervisor lead person who asked me to take two passengers to concourse C so they neither would nor miss their flight. As I was in the process of assisting these two passengers I encountered Manager, on C concourse standing with his arms up in the air saying you are pushing two passengers. He provoked me to say “do you know the difference between pushing two passengers as apposed to pushing one empty chair along with a passenger”. I assisted these passengers from landside and they made their flight. I was asked to go to the office and I did. Upon arriving to the office the Managers, were there. I was told you know why you are here. I stated that I did not know. He asked me why you didn’t push the wheelchair when I asked. I said we had a discussion and I stated because I did not feel comfortable with pushing an empty chair along with a passenger. Then he said you won’t have to worry about that, because you will not be working here any longer. Then the procedure of taking the badge and etc. He gave me a separation notice. According to him he fired me for insubordination and refused to perform duties. The female was not fired she and I do the same job and we have the same position.

Response from Carl: I'm sorry about your situation, John. I presume you have no union or anything that you could consult with given that you didn't mention it? How about a Human Resources group, personnel or something similar who might be able to mediate some sort of resolution?

I'm not sure how long ago this situation happened and if you've already moved onto a new job or if this happened recently in which case you might be pondering your next move.

Good luck and I hope it works out for you.

Carl
