WHERE IS THE ETHICS
by: Anonymous

I am having the same problem at work right now. There is one woman in my department who kiss ass and bow really good and she just received a raise and promotion even if she was the only one who messed up our audits last year. I am so sick to my stomach I want to quit but with this economy I have to think twice before quitting. I just finished my MBA, asked for a raise because I am being underpaid for the level of responsibility that I carry, and I was given all kind of excuses why I cant get a raise. I am very angry and cnt even go to Human Resources because the leadership is toxic. What shocks me is that the higher ups who approve the raises and bonuses are educated enough to know that favoritism is illegal and they play favorites too. After I resign from the company I am heading straight to the EEOC to file a complaint because I have seen too much favoritism and discrimination at my workplace.
It appears that the criteria for promotion today is kiss ass, bow, play the game or sleep with the boss. Forget about hard work and being ethical.

I feel your pain

SAME freakin thing happens at my job. I am only forty nine, and the person recieving the favoritism is twenty four. I wouldnt call her knock out gorgeous, but she does have really huge.....um....ego. (hahaha)
I said something to the boss once because she regularly takes forty minutes on her fifteen minute break, and he responded by being pissed off at ME, even though a couple of the guys chimed in and agreed with me. The VERY NEXT DAY the boss made a comment to me about how breaks were only supposed to be fifteen mins. I hotly informed him that I always stay exactly fifteen minutes, and if anything I punch back in a minute early. I dont know what his problem is...but I am thinking I should just invest in a push up bra and unbutton my blouse a little.

What are you waiting for?

Get some training and leave. Your boss sounds like a milktoast who can't stand up to the new girl because he wants to be "friends" with her. I'm assuming she leads him around by the nose ring as well?

55 is not too old to change careers. You can get training without spending mega bucks on a B.A. I know plenty of college graduates still in serving jobs because their degree simply didn't matter. I'm not knocking education. Just saying you can get trained without taking unnecessary classes and receive it in a minimal amount of time.

What about a certificate in medical or legal dictation? What about a certificate in billing and coding? What about taking some computer classes? Office work is just office work. I know because I work in one. You don't need to be a rocket scientist.

Make your plan, stick to it, and quit with a 3-week notice just to show you can take the high road. You will be missed. You can't replace the office brains with a perky butt, but more power to your boss for trying.

Focus on your future, not your employer's unfair practices. Many people your age have switched jobs, especially in this economy. You are just one more.

Good luck.

Take Ownership

Based on your writing proficiency, I am assuming you do not have a college education. You might want to make yourself more valuable to the company by getting a higher education, instead of placing blame on the hot girl for your own shortcomings. I would recommend that you focus on what YOU can do to make YOUR situation better. Your current situation is a result of past decisions. The good news is, you can make new decisions to change your future.

I feel your pain

That is exactly what they always say "I'm not playing favoritism" and just like you mentioned, "supervisor, manager take sides,
retaliate and give you hard times, however you straggler been there"

The worst of all "When we Can't do Nothing about it" So we are stock because we need the job!
