Finance
by Benedict Ocran
Doing an MBA will give me the opportunity to have the requisite skills in finance and accounting, it will also be an opportunity which will provide me a deep understanding and some practical skills in making up- to-date managerial decisions as it relates to finance and accountancy. It has long been my desire to help influence the path of financial management decisions in my country Liberia. My primary goal has always been to receive training that will help me qualify as a financial expert. Now that this opportunity is being provided by the most prestigious university in my country, I can not relent, but to grab hold of the golden opportunity of being trained by some of the brightest minds of our time. What is most intriguing is that I can obtain such training at home from professors who are well cognizant of the environment which I want to help influence. The world in which we live today is a “business world” and as such, each and every activity of man is influenced by business associated decisions. Hence, I am convinced that taking-up courses that lead to a master of business administration degree will place me in a better position to standout as a professional. According to some graduates that I have spoken with, the University of Liberia graduate school is actually the place to be, as it relates to the preparation of an individual in the world of “mindustry”. It is my hope that after my training, I will be able to blend my skills with my vocation in a professional and efficient way. Thereby charting a professional career as a financial expert whose aim is to make the world a better place then I met it. This training will prepare me to be able to help my family, my church, my community, my employer, my country and the world at large. Today, the world has become a global village and the world is changing at a rapid pace. For example, daily there are new ideas and inventions hence, one must be prepared to withstand the hurdles that are associated with an ever changing work environment. One of such areas experiencing rapid change is within the technological sector. Computer experts are developing many new ways of doing things that were completely on thought of just a few years back. One classic example is the use of the computer and it’s accessories that are found in every modern office setting. To be effective in today’s office setting, you must be an effective user of the computer and even the internet. Like the introduction of the computer, there are also many new ways that have evolved as it concerns doing businesses in our contemporary world. We hear about mergers, acquisitions, subsidiaries, holding companies, parent companies, branches, and letter of credits among others. We do not know how they all fuse together to make a workable concept. It is these doubts that I eagerly want to be cleared through my experience at the graduate school. Response from Carl: Thanks Benedict. This is quite a lengthy statement and is too long for a resume Career Objective so I'm guessing you'd plan on using this in perhaps a letter or email to a potential employer or something like that. Parts of it make me believe you're actually about to apply to the MBA program that you're referring to but I can't tell for sure. The problem is that it's just too long and I'm not sure who is going to read it from beginning to end. You typically have 30 seconds to get the attention of a hiring manager and I'm not sure a long statement like this will do that. It sounds like you're trying to imply in this statement that you're either doing an MBA or are planning on doing one but from your opening statement, I can't tell for sure. Carl |
