Favoritism Resulting in Not Getting Enough Experience
by Mallory
The managers under our old boss have since been given much more autonomy and are getting a lot of experience on a number of important corporate processes and functions. But our boss still insists on doing most of those things himself, even though it means he's always busy, usually behind, and has little time to spend with us. In the meantime, a newer employee (who really is very good) has since been promoted and it is obvious to everyone (even in other depts) that the boss favors her. I personally have a good reputation here and am not that concerned about the favoritism itself. But we are all getting more concerned about the result, which is that she is also the only one getting ANY exposure and training on those key responsibilities. While none of us have said anything to our boss about the obvious favoritism, we have all tried to point out (both directly and indirectly) that it is really in everyone's best interest - including his - if he took more time to bring the rest of us up to speed on this stuff. But months have gone by and nothing has changed. Now we're hearing that there might be another org change coming. We are pretty sure Upper Mgt has no clue that we are NOT getting the expected experience and we're afraid it makes us vulnerable in the long run. Response from Carl: Short of making your concerns known to your boss I'm not sure really sure what else to suggest. Is it possible that the reorganization that you refer to might see you reporting to someone else? Carl
