Favoritism: Parcel Delivery
by: Anonymous

Hello,

My shift [of co-workers] consists of about 10 people. I am 3rd in seniority on my shift. My new boss is a former co-worker who decided to go into management and is now my immediate supervisor. I used to have a more [favorable] position than he did on my shift, due to hard work and overall work ethic. Basically, I never stood around (and always help out others). As soon as he got promoted, he decided to demote me to a less favorable position. Not only that, but he is buddy-buddy with 3 other guys on my shift (who all happen to have less seniority than I do; and enjoy similar lifestyles - smoking marajuna). He allows them to leave early/have days off for doing less work, coming in late (and even sometimes reek of alcohol). Two of the guys I work with, that have seniority over me, want more hours and are given them. I on the other hand, want to leave early once or twice a week, but am constantly told to take over for the less motivated guys (which is probably the most frustrating thing ever). To me, it seems like my boss is afraid to tell his friends what to do. I do not have the need to kiss butt. I am constantly finding my self more and more stressed out having to pick up the slack and realizing how unproductive our shift has become. I see a true lack of caring and I don't enjoy work anymore. I have mentioned to him that he was favoring co-workers and it got me nowhere. I emailed my Union representative on this matter. I just feel used. What do I do?
