Fairness

I work at a small factory, around fifty employees, I've been there for twenty six years. When overtime is offered to me, it was only three hours or less. Certain other employees, with the seniority of five or ten years can stay six hours. Is there anything I can do about this.

Response from Carl: Thanks Brenda. I've worked in environments where overtime was available and it seemed that some people got a reputation for wanting to work overtime and some people got the reputation for avoiding it so the managers tended to first ask the people who liked working overtime. Are you certain that your employers know your preference?

I guess the first thing I'd ask you is whether or not you've made it clear to your employer that you want to work more hours? If so, have you asked them what you need to do to get more hours like your colleagues. I'd think with your level of experience and seniority that they'd already be aware of your desire to work more hours but in case they don't, you might need to remind them.
