Extension of notice period resignation letter

Comments from Carl: There are sometimes cases where your employer asks you to stay on board longer than the notice period in your work contract states. For example, perhaps you have a 3 week notice period but your manager - upon receiving your resignation in person - asks you to stay on board for a few weeks longer because there is some work that really needs to be done.

Typically, you'd just keep getting paid the same unless there was something extraordinary so for the purposes of the this example, the letter below just assumes this. As usual, you can tailor the letter for your specific needs.

Dear Jane

As per our conversation today regarding my resignation from my position as Your Job Title Here, I agree to work a longer notice period than the 3 weeks required and will instead work an extended notice period and will work until March 26 for a notice period of 4 weeks.

I understand that I will continue to be paid and accrue benefits as per the terms of my existing work contract.

Thank you again for the opportunity to work at ABC Corporation.
