Response from Carl: Your career generally refers to the long term part of your occupational life. It can be considered as the path that you take as you gain more experience by holding different jobs and roles throughout your work life. This is opposed to a job which is a role that you hold typically to earn money and is usually considered more of a short term endeavour since you will typically hold several (or more) jobs during your career. Jobs don't necessarily have to be related as you might switch from one job to another, unrelated one or they could follow in a progressive order.

Goal setting ties into your career since it typically involves the planning that you do related to goals that you would like to achieve during your career. Maybe you have a goal in mind in terms of reaching a certain level of position (ie. manager, president) or maybe you'd like to end up in a position teaching or mentoring others. Perhaps your goals relate to the amount of money you'd like to earn, the industry you'd like to be in, or your ability to travel to other countries as part of your career. It's really up to you to figure out what is important to you in your life and how your career can help you reach them.
