Adult College Education

An adult college education can often be a good option for experienced people who want to finish off uncompleted degrees or simply continue their learning and upgrade their skills.

College for adults can not only provide a person with an educational achievement that looks good on their resume, it can also give them training and skills improvement that can help them in their life and in their career.

For many adults, not pursuing or completing a college degree can be a big regret and it can also hold them back professionally.

As a recruiter, I can think of many instances where holding a degree – any degree – was a minimum requirement to apply for some jobs.

Some companies simply make it a requirement that all staff who hold certain positions must hold a college degree or other level of educational achievement.

With the advent of part-time programs, online education, long distance learning and the like, the opportunities for pursuing adult college education are greater today than they were in the past.

Now, it's possible to work fulltime, maintain your family and other personal life commitments and commit to an educational endeavor as well.

While a certain educational achievement on its own might not get you a job, it can certainly help to open doors that might not otherwise be available to you.

Again, some companies – whether they explicitly state it or not – require staff to hold minimum levels of education.

Often it's a company policy that they have decided to adhere to.

If you don't hold a university or college degree, think about times when you've applied for jobs that you were certain you were more than qualified for but where you didn't even receive an interview.

Could your lack of education be the reason?

It does happen.
